22 Dec Today I Will Run My Own Race!
When we face any situation in life and we want to change that situation, the first thing we have to do is be honest with ourselves. This is no different when you begin to look at and analyze your financial situation. For many the core of why they are in debt is because they failed to run their own race. What does this mean? Every where you look you will find advertising and societal influences which state that in order for you to be a success you must have the biggest car, house and television. If you can afford the biggest than congratulations you are running your own race but most cannot and as a result they lose their race. Unfortunately the cost of losing that race results in financial disaster and many Americans are losing this race! Even the creditors must learn to run their own race. Mortgage fraud is quickly overtaking the lending industry because they tried to take a short cut to the finish line. The The sub prime crisis is one race whose effects will be felt around the world for years to come.
As such it is not one individual, or one class of people or one area of the world that is running this race. Every one of us is running this race and must consider this journey every day of our lives. My race means I may not be able to do what some of my colleagues do financially because my race includes a $250,000 student loan. There are many days that I become frustrated with my own finances because I too have to live within my own individual limitations. So everyday I start off with my own little prayer for wisdom. “Today I will run my own race. I will go where you want me to go, I will do what you want me to do, I will be who you want me to be. As such no weapon formed against me shall prosper and at the end of the day I will be happy with who I am, where I have gone and what I have done. Amen. “ Does it work? Some days and some days not so much. But at the end of the day I have to try and live within my financial limitations or I will be representing myself within the bankruptcy court.
Running your own race applies regardless of what religion you are or whether you are agnostic. Your success in life is NOT tied to your financial status or how big your television screen may be. You must learn to live within your financial means and find pleasure/success in your individual accomplishments and not how many game systems you and your children own. Take control of your life and begin to run your own race today so at the end of the day you win the race and NOT the creditors!
