07 Jun Florida Attorney General Sues Harassing Debt Collector
Congratulations to Charlie Crist, Florida’s new governor, for taking on a debt collector who is attempting to collect debts illegally. Yesterday, the Governor sued Ellis Crosby & Associates, Inc. and Ted Ellis Crosby for violating Florida’s Consumer Collections Practices Act and the Federal Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. The allegations are too numerous to list.
The lawsuit alleges that the debt collectors used harassment, intimidation and illegal means to get people to pay debts. Governor Charlie Crist was quoted as saying: “Few words could adequately describe the appalling nature of the tactics used against these citizens.” The Governor also stated ” People facing the threat of paying a debt should not also endure fabricated threats and intimidation. The predatory nature of these actions demands our immediate attention, and the victims deserve immediate relief from these attacks.”

Posted at 14:55h, 24 JulyIt is great to see someone finally try to stop this type of collections, and push back.
I have a question : Over the past 6 months I have been getting phone calls to my personal cell phone, not my work, not my home, but my cell phone, which not listed, from a company who has given several business names, trying to get me to give information about myself and talk me into letting them consolidate my debt. #1) I don’t really need any debt consolidation right now #2)How did they get my cellphone #3) the number is always blocked or restrcited (Isn’t that illegal if they are soliciting me randomly?) #4) No offense to anyone, but I can’t understand a single word they say because they are speaking a strong dialect from India #5) They refuse to give me any information about there company (I know it’s the same people calling back over and over, even though I’ve asked to be removed from their list) and they tell me it’s Debt Free Consolidation, National Consolidation, or other similar names. #6) I’ve tried looking them up on the web and can’t find anything (They’ve even given fictitional Web sites) #7) All I know is everyone of them, when asked, tells me their company is based in Florida #8)The finally messed up and the alst time they just called, moments ago, a phone number actually showed up on my cell phone.
What can I do to Stop these people from calling (basically harassing me), sue them, get the government to shut them down, something, anything ?!?!?!?!?!?!? HHhhellp !
