Should I Be Afraid of Filing for Bankruptcy?

by Peter Orville, Attorney at Law · Posted in *Filing for Bankruptcy, Bankruptcy Myths, Featured

It is natural to be afraid of doing something you’ve never done before, like filing for bankruptcy protection. This is especially true if you’ve heard stories about why you shouldn’t file bankruptcy. There are many myths about what will happen if you do file bankruptcy. These usually untrue myths include:

*I will lose my house
*I will lose my car
*I will never get credit again
*I can’t file bankruptcy because I have a job
*I don’t owe enough to file bankruptcy
*I can’t file bankruptcy unless my spouse does also
*It’s too hard to file bankruptcy
*I filed before so I can’t file again
*Even if I file bankruptcy creditors will still harass me
*I’ll lose my job if I file bankruptcy
*I can’t file bankruptcy if I am current on my bills
*I make too much to file bankruptcy

Again, these are not usually true.

While the unknown is scary, the more you find out about bankruptcy, the less scary it becomes. The best way to find out about how bankruptcy will affect you is to seek out the advice of an experienced bankruptcy attorney.

A good starting point is to go to the websites of the attorneys listed here at Bankruptcy Law Network.
