Bankruptcy Can Be Good for Your Health

It’s no secret that if you need to file bankruptcy, you are under stress. Financial problems are horrible, and they are real. But don’t let financial problems consume your life. Concentrate on what’s truly important: your health and your family.

I keep a box of Kleenex on my desk for my clients. By the time people finally realize they need a bankruptcy lawyer’s assistance, they are emotionally exhausted. They can’t sleep, can’t concentrate, have marital problems, and are often suffering from health problems caused or worsened by their financial situation.

One of my former clients, a very nice older gentleman, ignored my advice and put off filing bankruptcy, insisting instead that he wanted to “keep trying.” After his second heart attack, however, his family convinced him that he had to let go of the financial burden he’d been carrying. He finally accepted that he needed to file bankruptcy. His case went well, but his family and I sure wish he’d followed my advice before suffering two heart attacks.

For those of you in this difficult situation, my advice is always the same. Don’t let financial problems and your worries about them interfere with the things truly important in your life. And if you need help, contact a professional.

The advice you receive—and the relief you feel—may surprise you. You wouldn’t hesitate to see a doctor about a serious health problem, so don’t hesitate to see a bankruptcy lawyer for a serious financial problem. And when you do, keep your focus on what really matters in life.
