A grateful client thanked me for his fresh start
By David Leibowitz, Illinois and Wisconsin Bankruptcy Attorney on May 13, 2009 in Benefits of Bankruptcy, Life After Bankruptcy
Readers of Bankruptcy Law Network know that bankruptcy attorneys are very busy these days. Today, a client from four years ago stopped at my office unannounced. He was in such bad shape then – totally due to medical bills – that he could only make payments $100 at a time. It took him close to 8 months to be able to pay for my services – at a reduced rate too.
He came by to express his gratitude. Here are some of the changes he told me about his life:
- He has an excellent high paying job
- He is married to a beautiful woman
- He lives in the nicest home he ever has had in his life
- His FICO score is over 800
The credit bureaus gave him credit for the consistent manner in which he paid his bankruptcy fee – an event which, by the way, I reported to the credit bureaus so that he could establish that he was credit-worthy to rent an apartment.
This young man, barely 30 years of age, has matured into a solid citizen. He told me that I was right when I told him that bankruptcy would leave him better off. In fact, he told me that bankruptcy was the very best choice he could have made.
I couldn’t spend too much time with him today – I had other appointments. But I truly feel that I have gained more than a client in this young man. I feel as though I have gained a friend for life. He invited me to lunch next month and it will truly be a pleasure to hear of this man’s success. Moments like this give me the energy and courage to carry on even in these difficult times.
