Diane Davis was sworn in as Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of New York, Utica Division on March 6, 2009. Judge Davis replaces Judge Stephen Gerling, who recently retired. Judge Davis received her B.A. in Economics and German from St. Lawrence University in 1976 and her J.D. from Albany Law School in 1991. From 1995 until her appointment to the bench, she served as Counsel to the Chapter 13 Standing Trustee in Albany, New York.
Prior to joining the Trustees office, she clerked for Magistrate Judge Ralph W. Smith, Jr., served as Counsel to the Civil Justice Reform Commission for the Northern District of New York, and was the Assistant Director of Career Planning at Albany Law School. Before law school, Judge Davis lived and worked in Rochester, New York and overseas, residing primarily in Germany.
Judge Davis has lectured on bankruptcy topics for the National Association for Chapter 13 Trustees, the Lorman Education Services, the New York State Office of Attorney General, the New York State Bar Association, the Albany County Bar Association, the Creditors Association of Upstate New York and Albany Law School. She is a past President of the Capital Region Bankruptcy Bar Association and the Capital Region Womens Bar Association, the past Vice President of the Federal Court Bar Association, and formerly an Adjunct Professor of Albany Law School.
Judge Davis will preside in the Bankruptcy Court in Utica, NY which also holds court in Binghamton.
