NYS Attorney General Andrew Cuomo Intervenes For Consumers in Central NY Bankruptcy Case

by Peter Orville, Attorney at Law on March 19, 2009 · Posted in Bankruptcy Cases & Legislation

A Central New York Bankruptcy Court ruled that Affordable Furniture Stores in Central New York must reopen to allow customers to pick up furniture that they had already paid for.

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s office had received three dozen complaints from people who had discovered the stores were closed in Syracuse, Utica, Rome and Watertown when they went to pick up their furniture purchases.  A review of the store records indicated that over 100 people had furniture ready to pick up in the stores that were set to auction off their assets this Sunday.

Cuomo’s action in intervening in Bankruptcy Court resulted in the Bankruptcy Court order.
