Mortgage Modification in Bankruptcy Bill to House Floor Wednesday

HR200, a bill pending in Congress to allow for mortgage modification in chapter 13 bankruptcy, may be brought to the floor of the House of Representatives by Wednesday or Thursday of this week. Supporters should call or fax their members of Congress today or tomorrow. This law change will help people in foreclosure who don’t want to file bankruptcy also, Chip Parker, Jacksonville bankruptcy lawyer, writes.
The bill has already been approved by the House Judiciary Committee and is expected that the bill will be rolled up into a broader package of bills, including bills supported by the financial services industry, according to Ike Shulman, chair of the Legislative Committee for the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, which supports the bill. The bill is similar to S.61, Helping Families Save Their Homes in Bankruptcy Act of 2009, pending in the Senate.

- Fax your letter to your elected officials or phone their office. (Letters should be faxed not mailed, mail takes weeks due to security measures.)
