Where To Get An Investigative Consumer Report

by Kevin Gipson, New Orleans Bankruptcy Attorney on November 21, 2008 · Posted in Uncategorized

In a previous article, I discussed your rights to get a copy of your investigative consumer credit report.

Just as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) gives you the right to obtain a free annual report from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, the FCRA also gives you the right to a free report from a “nationwide specialty consumer reporting agency” once a year.

However, unlike www.annualcreditreport.com, the shared website for Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, there is no centralized source for obtaining free investigative consumer reports.

Also, unlike the three national credit reporting agencies, there is no requirement for investigative consumer reporting agencies to maintain a website. Instead, the investigative consumer reporting agencies to maintain must maintain a toll-free number.

Although they are not required to maintain a website, all of the investigative consumer reporting agencies do, in fact, maintain sites.

Who these investgative consumer reporting agencies are and how to get in contact with them will be covered in my next article.
