I Have To File Bankruptcy: How Humiliating!
By Douglas Jacobs, California Bankruptcy Attorney on May 19, 2008 in Bankruptcy Myths, Benefits of Bankruptcy, Featured, General Bankruptcy Information
Sometimes in life, things happen and the best remedy is to file bankruptcy. How humiliating: to have worked all one’s life, paid for things, saved, and now to be strapped into seeking a discharge of your debts.
It happens. But it’s not the end of the world, and no one will think less of you. Frankly, things happen. For most of my clients, perhaps even all of them, bankruptcy seems to follow an unavoidable catastrophe. Maybe they become ill and the medical insurance won’t cover the bills. Maybe they have lost a job, gotten a divorce, or been the victim of abusive credit practices. No one sets out to go broke!
So, hold your head up: you have nothing to be ashamed of. In today’s economy, many many people have to get the fresh start that bankruptcy provides. And it’s not going to be in the newspapers or on television: your neighbors and friends won’t know unless you tell them. Besides, it’s likely that those same neighbors or friends have had to file bankruptcy too.
There’s simply no shame in taking a proactive step to cure your economic problems.
