Teach Your Parents Well

You all know the words to Graham Nash’s 1970 hit and by now the tune is melancholically playing in your mind.  And like most music of the slash decade, 60/70’s, it provides a life message.  Teach Your Children involves communication between a parent and a child.  One teaching life lessons to the other and the other returning the favor, toward sharing a common understand of each other.  It is also a message of protecting the other in a tumultuous and troubling world.

This song comes to mind as I read a Dick Morris column about InfoUSA.  You can read the article on his website if you must, but don’t let the politics cloud the message.  This is about your parents.  Dick says InfoUSA sold mailing lists to telemarketers under the categories of “Elderly with Alzheimer’s” and “Gullible seniors”.  Pulling no punches, Dick says the telemarketers purchased the lists so vulnerable seniors “could be fleeced out of their life savings”.

Use this moment to communicate with your parents.  Teach them not to fall prey to phone solicitations for money or personal identity information. Protect them from con artists, crooks, scammers and identity thieves.  And know they love you.
