Bill To Protect Homes Via Change To Bankruptcy Laws
By Susanne Robicsek, North Carolina Bankruptcy Attorney on Feb 20, 2008 in Bankruptcy Practice and Procedure, Benefits of Bankruptcy, General Bankruptcy Information, Mortgages, North Carolina, Predatory Lending
You can’t look at a newspaper or turn on a news program without seeing something about the mortgage crisis, yet no true help has been offered. Experts agree that bankruptcy courts provide a unique opportunity to have experienced judges oversee modifications of loans to help families in crisis and protect our economy.
I am proud that three North Carolina Representatives have joined to sponsor HR 3609, the “Emergency Home Ownership and Mortgage Equity Protection Act.” . Rep. Bradley Miller is the bills primary sponsor, and he is joined by Rep. Mel Watt and Rep. GK Butterfield. This bill could help protect hundreds of thousands of families homes and protect the investments of untold other families who would be hurt by plunging home values in neighborhoods filled with foreclosed properties.
Please write your Representatives a letter urging them to support this important legislation.
