Why should I care about the price of oil? Part II
By Rachel Lynn Foley - Kansas City, MO Bankruptcy on Dec 8, 2007 in General Bankruptcy Information, Missouri
By-products include things such as tires, roads, plastic bags, plastic milk jugs, credit cards (yes, the dratted credit cards), motorcycle helmets, airline fuel, brake fluid, medicines and many other products. So our pebble, the price of oil, enters the pond and the ripple effect begins. One very obvious ripple effect is the price of milk. Why would the price of milk increase? Well as the price of a barrel of oil goes up the price of the plastic container for a gallon of milk goes up. Just about anything that is plastic is a by product of oil. So the price of anything plastic increases as the price of oil increases. The dairy farmers cannot afford to absorb the price of increased packaging costs so they in turn pass that cost along to you.
