Where Is My Bankruptcy Meeting of Creditors Held in the Utica Division of the Northern District of New York?

A meeting of creditors is held in every bankruptcy case. The meeting of creditors for a Chapter 7 is conducted by the chapter 7 trustee. The meeting of creditors for a Chapter 13 is conducted by the chapter 13 trustee. In the Utica Division of the Northern Distrcit of New York your meeting can be held on one of two places, depending on the county in which you live.
Meetings are held in Binghamton, at the United States Federal Building and Courthouse located at 15 Henry Street, Binghamton, NY for the counties of Broome, Chenango, Delaware and Otsego. The Bankruptcy hearings are held in the courtroom in the rear of the first floor.
Meetings are held in Utica, at the Alexander Pirnie Federal Building located at 10 Broad Street, Utica, NY 13501 for the counties of Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Madison, Montgomery, and Oneida. The Bankruptcy hearings are held on the first floor.
Meetings are also held in Watertown for the counties of Franklin, Lewis and St. Lawrence as well as Jefferson County in the Syracuse Division.
The meeting of creditors is an informal meeting between you, the Trustee and your lawyer. On the rare occasion, a creditor shows up. The meeting will go quickly, and you will soon see that any worry you had before the meeting was unnecessary, especially if your attorney’s office has provided the Trustee with the documents s/he needs and has spent the time needed to properly prepare your petition. Get there at least a few minutes early so you can hear the type of questions asked by your Trustee.
To be allowed into the courthouse, everyone must show a picture identification and must pass through a metal detector. Cell phones, computers, cameras or electronic devices are not allowed to be brought into the courthouse by non attorneys.More information can be found on the court’s website: http://www.nynb.uscourts.gov/
