Position Wanted: Leg breaker, Will Work For Food.
By Andy Miofsky, Illinois Bankruptcy Attorney on Jun 11, 2007 in General Bankruptcy Information
An opinion piece by Froma Harrop in the Philadelphia Inquirer compares today’s Corporate America with loan sharks and leg breakers of days long gone. Harrop goes beyond the typical storyline of payday lenders and sub prime loans and compiles anecdotal evidence into a mini-expose’ of car dealers selling cars without sticker prices, tax preparation services offering refund loans, and credit cards bearing monthly fees in addition to the usual annual fee and high interest. All are designed to separate the working poor from their hard earned paycheck through high interest loans. For an interesting read see, The working poor as prey: Where loan sharks and con men once ruled, big business is making a killing.
