Maxed Out: Coming to a Theater Near You

A movie premieres this weekend which ought to be required viewing for every American who owes money and for every American who might want to borrow, and most definitely every American politician. The film is an independent production by James Scurlock called Maxed Out and it will premiere initially in a limited number of cities, and will roll out to others in the coming weeks.

The film explores all sides of the current debt explosion, from the bankers who profit from predatory lending practices, to the consumers who will never get ahead, to the debt buying “vulture” investors who make sure old debt never dies, to the debt collectors who cajole or terrify folks into paying what they can’t afford.

If you feel badly about owing money you can no longer pay back, you owe it to yourself to see this movie. One of the most valuable things about movies and TV shows about consumer debt — the ones that don’t have something to sell you, anyway — is that you know you aren’t alone anymore.
