Does Changing My Job Affect My Chapter 7 Bankruptcy?

The answer is that is depends. It will depend on when you change your job.

If you change your job prior to filing a Chapter 7 bankruptcy and you make more money than you did before you may no longer qualify for your fresh start Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

However, if you receive a higher paying job after you file your Chapter 7 bankruptcy and disclose the new job in your bankruptcy filing then it may not be seen as an abuse of the system. In such a case you may receive your Chapter 7 fresh start.

In many legal matters you are dealing with a spectrum of risk. Each person’s facts may be different and present a higher or lower risk of creating problems. It would be wise to consult a bankruptcy attorney for assistance specific to your facts and risks.
