Free Annual Credit Report

Did you know that under the Fair Credit Reporting Act you are entitled to one free credit report every 366 days? What this means for you is that every 366 days you can go to annualcreditreport.com and request a copy of your Experian, Equifax and Transunion credit report for free.

You should do this at least once a year to monitor your credit history and ensure no fraudulent activity is taking place. If you are in the pre-bankruptcy planning stage, these reports will allow you to provide your attorney with a complete credit picture of the debt that needs to be discharged. I highly recommend that you call 1-877-322-8228 to request the three credit bureaus by mail. I have found that my clients have a higher success rate of obtaining these reports because if you request them through the internet you often times need to provide account numbers from previous accounts that you no longer have the information.

Bankruptcy is a serious step towards regaining financial control. Having a complete financial picture of your credit will not only help your attorney but it will assist you in taking the first steps of your financial rebirth.
