Can A Credit Repair Company REMOVE My Bankruptcy From My Credit Report?

by Karen Oakes, Southern Oregon Bankruptcy Attorney on February 2, 2007 · 1 comment · Posted in *Chapter 13 Bankruptcy, *Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, Bankruptcy Practice and Procedure

Beware of claims made by credit repair companies: like, for example: ” We can erase bad credit!” NOT TRUE!!! No one can erase bad information if it is accurate.

“Only we can remove old/inaccurate information!” NOT TRUE!!! The truth is, YOU can correct the report yourself.

“The bad information is accurate but we can erase it anyway!” NOT TRUE!!!! If this means lying to the credit reporting agency, it is illegal. Credit repair companies cannot remove a bankruptcy from your credit report, period. The bankruptcy will remain for ten years (although maybe in a chapter 13 case, it may be removed after 7 years).
