In Atlanta, where I practice, there are always two or three debtors on each calendar who show up late. Don't be one of them. If you don't know where to go, make a practice run the day before. Plan to arrive in court at least an hour ahead of time - you may have trouble finding a place to park, or the security line may be out the door.

If you are late, the trustee may reset the hearing, which means that you and your lawyer will have to come back in a week or two - this will increase your costs and give your lawyer less time to fix any problems with your case.

Where I practice, I tell clients that the hardest thing about the first meeting of creditors is.....getting into the building! It's a federal building and you need VALID, government issued picture ID. You also need to leave your knives and explosive devices at home.

You do need, in California, to bring proof of your Social Security number.

It's not a quiz. You know the answer to all the questions. Breathe deep, listen to the question, and it'll be over before you know it.
