Who Will Be Able to Read My Credit Report and See That I Filed For Bankruptcy?
By Karen Oakes, Southern Oregon Bankruptcy Attorney on Jan 31, 2007 in General Bankruptcy Information
Only certain people such as creditors (when you apply for credit of some kind); employers (but only under certain circumstances and you must give authorization); and government agencies (including Child Support Enforcement). No one else will look at your credit report unless you give them permission to do so.
In most locations, the public is unaware of bankruptcy filings as the filings are not published in the paper. In Oregon, for example, unless my client tells someone, even their relatives will not know that they have filed for bankruptcy protection.
